Meet Sara-Chana Silverstein, Celebrity Author of the MoodTopia Book

I wanted to use the title below for this post, but unfortunately, it was too long.

Meet Sara-Chana Silverstein, Author of the Moodtopia Book

Mother of 7

Master Herbalist, Classical Homeopath, IBCLC, Doula

Keynote Speaker and TV & Radio Health Expert

Sara-Chana is one of the most accomplished women I’ve ever met.  Her passion for Herbalism and being a Mom really comes through in her video interview.

Career

Lauren: Waaaaaow! I am in awe of just how much you’ve accomplished, Sara-Chana.  You are an absolute STAR.

How would you describe what you do for a living?

Sara-Chana: I am known as New York’s “MOODY EXPERT” teaching women how to be more in control of their moods and not feel hijacked by them. I help empower women to understand that their moodiness is here to help them succeed in life!

I am also an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant having helped over 28,000 Mother/Baby dyads learn to breastfeed over the last 26 years.

While working with clients, having been trained in conventional medicine I knew that there had to be natural ways to help treat breast infections, anaemia and postpartum depression.

Believing that the cures we needed had to be in Natural I went back to school and became a Master Herbalist and Classical Homeopath.

The word got out very quickly that I could help moms & babies with herbal medicine. Before long I was helping children with chronic ear infections, colds, flu, ADD and also their Moms and Dads.

Lauren: If you wear many hats in business, which of these do you love most, which takes most of your time and which brings in the most income?

Worked with clients, paid all the office bills, wrote articles, reached out to educate Pediatrician, OBGYNS.

At the time there was only one other Lactation office in NYC so I really had to build my practice from scratch and problem solve all by myself.

Lauren: When did you take the decision to become an Entrepreneur?

I always had a passion for learning not becoming a businesswoman, but as time went on my practice became so large I had to learn the business side of a Medical Office.

Lauren: Who did you have in mind?  Who do you serve?

Sara-Chana: I saw that in the United States everyone was very pro-breastfeeding but no one had the skills to problem-solve for women with challenges.

I also realized that not all women respond well to conventional medicine and I knew they would love and respond well to botanical medicine.

My focus was to empower women to be pro-active and not passive about their health and the health of their families. I knew I had the knowledge and the skill to make this happen.

What has been the number one highlight of your career?

Sara-Chana: Doing my first TV show about Breastfeeding!

Lauren: All things considered, do you feel it was a good decision to become an Entrepreneur?

Sara-Chana: You BET! I have helped so many women! Also, my kids have seen how important it is to be a kind and loving medical practitioner!

Motherhood

Lauren: What has been the number one highlight of Motherhood for you?

Sara-Chana: Giving birth to 7 beautiful babies.

Lauren: What has been the greatest challenge for you to overcome as a Mother?

Sara-Chana: Juggling my 7 kids and my office and my continued learning.

Lauren: Has it been tricky balancing work and home life?

Sara-Chana: Yes indeed! I have learned to be very organized. I plan ahead, make lists, have baskets, hooks and coloured coded my 5 boys socks!

Work-Life Balance

Lauren: Where do you work most days?

I broke the wall so I could be a “STAY-AT-HOME WORKING MOM.”

This way my kids could stay at home if they weren’t feeling well and missed a day at school.

Also, my boys used to come home for lunch every day! It was wonderful to see them.

Lauren: How many days per week do you work, on average?

Sara-Chana: I work 6 days a week.

Lauren: How many hours do you estimate you work per day, on average?

Sara-Chana: Between 10-14 hours per day.

Do you have any daily rituals to maintain a work-life balance?

Sara-Chana: I try hard to take time to take some breaths.

Work Fulfillment

Lauren: Do you feel you are living your passion?

Sara-Chana:  Yes, I am. I am passionate about plants and botanical medicines. I teach women how to use herbs, make them into medicine, oils and creams!

Lauren: Do you feel you have already created your best work?

Sara-Chana: Indeed. But as I tell my kids, “ I am still a work in progress!”

Message for the World

Lauren: Do you have a message you would like the world to hear?

Sara-Chana: Everyone has special skills that the world needs. My favorite saying is, “What is easy for you is a gift to the world, whatever is difficult is a gift to yourself.” So, don’t be selfish and GIVE YOUR GIFT TO THE WORLD!

Advice for Entrepreneurs

Lauren: What advice would you give someone just starting out as an Entrepreneur?

Sara-Chana: Learn, learn, learn….Study, study, study…..Get a mentor and learn from them.

READ Books and attend lectures.

Become a MASTER and don’t settle for mediocracy.

Wow! What an incredible bio! Something that really stood out for me is: “We are not in control of what happens to us in life, but how we respond.” That is such a powerful affirmation to use everyday. I’m also doing my research into alternative health practices in an attempt to improve my own health and well-being so will definitely be looking into Sara-Chana’s resources and book!

I agree, Nicole, especially when circumstances are tough, when you are hit with situations as stressful as the one Sara-Chana and her family had to survive, her daughter suddenly finding herself paralyzed and told she will never walk again.

To me the highlight of the post is, apart from Sara’s incredible energy to balance 7 kids and work, handling women’s mood. This is actually the first time I am reading about someone who is seriously working towards treating mood related women problems in a natural way. Not every doctor is devoted to a women cause like that.

Hi Leana, indeed, indeed. I aspire to reach the heights Sara-Chana has reached and I take huge inspiration from her. Pity I’ve left it too late to have 7 children. I had my son at 40 and when I realised how amazing it is to be a Mom, I wished I’d started sooner.

This was an interesting read. Hats off to her for being able to wear so many hats and helping so many people. I really loved her saying as well. I wonder how much education she had for her to do all of the things she did. Did she say anything about how much schooling she had to have?

Thanks for your comment, Felicia. Yes, Sara-Chana did discuss how many years of training she did. I can’t remember if we had that discussion before I started recording the video interview or not, but I know each course took a good few years and she did them while raising little ones. RESPECT!
