I met Kimberly from Mummepreneur on Gumroad, a platform to help online creators design and sell digital products. As soon as I found out her brand was called Mummepreneur and Kimberly helps busy moms keep their houses clean, I had to get this interview.
- One, because she’s a Mom Entrepreneur (of course), and
- Two, because cleaning house is notoriously not my thang.
Mummepreneur | 30 Days To A Clean House
Lauren: In your own words, what do you do for a living?
Kimberly: I help busy moms keep their houses clean, with customized cleaning schedules, daily cleaning plans and group coaching and accountability.
Lauren: When did you decide to become an entrepreneur?
Kimberly: To be honest, it just kind of happened!
I started blogging years ago when my oldest was 3 years old and it was impossible to leave the house because I needed a way to connect with the outside world. I needed a creative outlet and I needed to feel useful to the world.
That’s when I found Gumroad’s Small Product Lab, through which I launched my very first digital product! I didn’t expect to earn anything out of it, but I did! And it just felt amazing to be able to do that.
Eventually, I went on to create more and more products all aimed at helping make life easier for moms and homemakers just like me.
Lauren: Who did you have in mind when you started your business? Who do you serve?
Kimberly: I serve homemakers and moms with small kids, who are struggling to keep their house clean and organized.
Lauren: How did you come up with the idea?
Kimberly: From personal experience!
After my firstborn, life suddenly became chaotic. Very soon, the house was a mess. One fine day I just couldn’t take it. The mess was getting to me. Eventually, I created a system and slowly, bit-by-bit over a period of many days, my house was back to normal again.
When talking to other friends in a similar stage in life, I realized that this is a common issue.
That’s when I thought, why not share my system with other moms too?
Kimberly’s Highlights
Lauren: What has been the number one business highlight?
Kimberly:
When my ebook got accepted by the Ultimate Bundles team for inclusion in the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle 2021.
I don’t know if you have heard of Ultimate Bundles, but let me tell you, they don’t accept just anything at all.
The first couple of digital products that I had offered for inclusion in their Bundles were politely refused. So, when my book got accepted, it was a major boost to my morale and to my signature course sales as well!!
Lauren: Oh wow, that’s awesome Kimberly! Yes, I do know Ultimate Bundles and CONGRATULATIONS for having your eBook accepted! That’s fabulous!
Lauren: What has been the number one highlight of motherhood for you?
Kimberly: Having two little human beings who look at me as if I’m the most important person in the world!!
And also, learning from my kids!
Every day they teach me some lesson or the other in life – unconditional love, forgiveness, acceptance, how to laugh at the silliest things and so much more!!
Lauren: Is there anything you wish you knew when you first became a mom?
Kimberly: I wish I had known just how much life would change and that I would still love being a mom anyway.
I wish I had known how much my world would revolve around my kids.
Lauren: What do you love most about being a Mom Entrepreneur?
Kimberly: I love that I can be home with my kids while at the same time earning some income by helping other moms while doing something that I enjoy.
Lauren: Do you feel you are living your passion?
Kimberly: Yes… One of them, at least! Lol.
Kimberly’s Challenges
What has been the greatest challenge for you to overcome in your career?
Kimberly: Self-doubt! I’m honestly still working on it. Lol.
Lauren: What has been the greatest challenge for you to overcome as a mother?
Kimberly: Mom guilt!
The reason I wanted to be a homemaker, was so that I could be there for the kids. Being an entrepreneur is challenging I would often feel guilty for working when I could be spending time with them instead.
Kimberly on Work-Life Balance
Lauren: Has it been tricky balancing work and home life?
Kimberly: Absolutely!! I’m still working on it!
Lauren: Where do you work most days?
Kimberly: I work from home.
Lauren: How many hours do you estimate you work per day on average?
Kimberly:
With small kids, I need to be flexible with my time. In addition, Covid messed up the schedule that I had been working on. So, I don’t have fixed hours yet. I just do whatever I can after the kids are asleep.
Lauren: Do you have any daily rituals to maintain a work-life balance?
Kimberly: Not yet. But this is something that I need and want to start doing.
Lauren: Do you feel you have already created your best work?
Kimberly: Oh no! I definitely have lots more to offer.
I am constantly learning and growing. The best is yet to come.
Now that the kids are small, implementation is a bit slow. But I have a ton of ideas that I am working on.
Kimberly’s Message to the World
Lauren: Do you have a message you would like the world to hear?
Kimberly: You never know what you are capable of until you try. Just do your best and leave the rest to God.
If your intentions are good, you can achieve just about anything with hard work and prayer.
Lauren: Is there a book, song or movie that has had huge significance or meaning in your life?
Kimberly: “Who will Cry When You Die” by Robin Sharma – I just love that one!
Kimberly’s Advice for New Entrepreneurs
Lauren: What advice would you give someone just starting out as an entrepreneur?
Kimberly: Keep on going on and never give up. Rest if you must, but don’t quit.
Lauren: Do you feel you chose an easy path or a difficult one?
Kimberly: I don’t know about easy or difficult, but it’s definitely fulfilling!
Lauren: Which tools of the trade have been enormously helpful for you?
Kimberly: Quite a few. But I’m in love with Canva!
Lauren: Me too. Probably a good time to mention that all images for this post were sourced and created on Canva Pro.
Are there any courses or studies you feel have been essential to your success?
Kimberly: I have taken a couple of courses by Suzi of Start a Mom Blog. She’s just awesome!
How to Help Kimberly
Lauren: How can I help you?
Kimberly: Help my target audience find me!
Lauren: Who is your target market? If I were to give you a referral, who would I be looking for?
Kimberly: Moms and Homemakers with small kids, who are struggling to keep their houses clean and organized and can’t afford a maid or cleaner to do it for them.
